New Afghan Finished!

I Finished my Wool-eater CAL in the Sarah London Flickr group. I did 16 rows of colors I had to give it a rainbow look. Isn't it beautiful?? :)

Even the backside looks neat!

Then I cleaned out some of my yarn scrap tubs, added the small amounts to my giant yarn ball. It's growing!

Not one scrap of yarn is wasted around here :) Little ends go in mason jars for colorful displays (you must pack it super tight for that 'yarniful' artwork look ), and the longer pieces and small balls of colors that I can't use for anything else go on this giant ball. Don't yet know what it will become, but it needs to grow BIGGER!

Here are some cotton things I've been working on for Valentines Day coming up...

Here is a sort of granny heart I made, just wish I'd written the pattern down, now I can't remember how I did it.

Some doilies with hearts, or could be kitchen dishcloth, or a hotpads...

Some Birdie Decorations

Ever since I made Lucy's birdie decoration a few years ago, the blue & green one, I've wanted to make more...many more in fact! Well, I'm finally doing just that! I had a skein of I Love This Yarn in an odd color, greens, yellow, orange, red and blueish kinda colors, and I love the color but never knew what to use it on. So I used it up on Birds! I made 4 with that yarn, tho only 3 are shown thanks to a bad picture on one. I love them, SO colorful! I also did a Cardinal red one. If anyone is interested in the pattern tutorial, it's right here on Lucy's website.

I turned the body upside down and made it into a turtle :)

Stocking Plant Hanger Pattern, and Gir!!!

Just a quick note to those who requested my stocking plant hanger pattern, I will email it to those people tomorrow sometime, as soon as I get it typed onto a file here. I just made another and tested my pattern, made a couple adjustments, and got the rest of it written out :)

If any of you or probably your kids are familiar with Gir - Invader Zim, I was recently choosen to pattern test this Gir hat pattern from the Needle Nerd , Now, I know nothing about this show or creature, but my teen does, so it was an early Christmas present for her :)

If anyone is looking for this pattern, Needle Nerd will have it in her shop on Etsy this weekend.

Christmas Stockings & Stocking Plant Hanger :)

Isn't this neato? :) I was sitting at the dinner table one night, looking at the stockings I had just made hanging on the calendar in the kitchen, (Yes, the one that is still on Febuary :)) And looking at a crochet plant hanger I made at another window, and thought, "Why not make a Christmas stocking that is also a plant hanger!?!?" So, upon waking at 3:00am the next morning, after dreaming of stocking plant hangers, :), I made it! Doesn't it look great?? I think a different plant might look better in it, but I just had to show off my Christmas Cactus blooming.

Umm....ignore the orange spider web, and orange painted turtle :) There must be a 4 year old around here somewhere....:)

Isn't the cactus beautiful? Only one side is blooming, the other side has a couple tiny buds. Strange.

If anyone would like the pattern for this planter stocking, I did amazingly write it down at 3am when I was making it! Most of it anyway. If anyone is interested, leave a comment saying so and I'll type it up. It can be used as a regular stocking too. The stocking part is about 13 inches with an H hook, and with the hanger part it's around 26 inches long.

These are two more stockings I made from a different pattern. I wanted some large stockings just for wall decorations. I love these colors! These babies are 32 inches long!!!!

This one was in a crochet magazine from last year, I forget which one.....if you'd like to know leave a comment and I'll find it for you. This is forest green with red centers, and light green trim. I love that color combo! And this one measures 30 inch!

Hmmm...someone needs to fix that calendar...

My Crochet in a Music Video!!!!!!!

Way back over this past summer, I saw that Christina Perri was doing a lyric video for her song Distance from her Lovestrong Album. She asked for her fans to create the words for the lyrics in the video. The first 190 people replying would get a word to make, so I replied and surprisingly, got a word! My word was "TO". And you'll see it below my word TO, crocheted! :) Then about a month later, I got another email from her crew saying they wanted to know if I'd do another word for the video, UP. Sure! I was working on cotton doilies at the time, so I crocheted the word UP into the burgundy one below. The first 5 pictures here are pictures I shot from stopping the video on my words, they were shown 5 times. The word UP is spinning on the bike tire in the very beginning :) The last 2 pictures below are my originals I took before mailing them off to Hollywood California! And here is the link to her video Distance .

Bells, Bells & More Bells!

Bells! Big Bells! Hahaha, and yes, I have many of them. This was the first one I did, and I loved it so much, I had visions of green and white bells, then red and white, and so on, and so on.... and that is why there are so many! I just love all the colors.

Here is a Christmas tree skirt I finished today, well...except for those pesky ends :) It's done in Red Heart White, and Hobby Lobby's I Love this Yarn Red & Christmas Variegated. I have trouble getting reds and whites to come out natural looking on my camera. I really looks nice though. Would probably look better taken in house with flash.

It was oddly warm today here in Upstate NY, 70 degrees! Where is the snow??? So, I took some pics around here. This is the corn wagon, basically our heat for the winter in the pellet stove. A small amount of wood pellets gets mixed in too. We grow and pick the corn, and eventually when it's dry enough, we shell it on a sheller in the barn that is probably more than 100 years old.

Dog Sweaters

Here are the 2 dog sweaters I finished a while back. This is Zoe trying to model one :) No chance of it fitting her, lol. My smallest dog of the six here is 35lbs and it barely went over his head, so I have no dog to model them for you.

One of these days I'll figure it out. :):):)

Update on the *new* blogger....I guess it depends on which new template you pick how screwed up you get. I had originally picked the first one, which shows all of your blog pictures, and neatly lists the blog updates by date, in a really neat and easy to see way. but there was nothing else. My blog title picture that took me 3 hours to learn how to make was gone, and everything on my right sidebar was also gone. So I changed to another template, and whalla! Everything was back in place. So I have a nice fall scene for my template, and I have Blogfrog, whatever it is.

Looks like a warm, possibly sunny day here in New York, maybe I'll get to crochet outside today!

Crochet finds!

I am trying the "new" blogger. I knew nothing about it until reading about it on another crochet blogger's blog. So I had to go see for myself. Apparently, it'll happen within 2 weeks whether we like it or not. So...I might as well get used to it. It might be fun :) I still have no idea where my followers list is, or my blog roll of favorites I visit daily, or all of my other stuff. It must be here somewhere.....if you find it let me know where, ok? :)

So.....onto crochet! I found these things at a local rummage sale. Can you believe they were just 10 cents or twenty five cents a piece??? This lid cover/doily is done in thread, and fits perfectly over my yarny scraps jar!

Somebody thought this was a cape! Hahaha....it's a tree skirt obviously.

This nice cotton crochet bag....like brand new! And only 10 cents. What an insult to a crocheter huh? It's in good hands now ;)

This isn't crochet.....I just liked it for the fabric patchwork.

Back to blogger....need to figure all this new stuff out :)

Ok, 20 minutes later and I found how to get rid of that "dynamic view" page, and found all MY stuff! I liked that newer version, but everything else was gone! Ugh, I hope it don't change anymore than I have it now!

New Sweater, or Maybe a Robe

TAH-DA!!!!!! I've had this done for a week or so now, just finally got some photos of it! This is the new sweater I made. The first 2 photos are me....yes me....before I decided to make it longer, and put pockets on it. It's basically 2 six sided granny squares, and I think I did 25 rows. I see them done on everyone's site for babies, and I never saw one done up for adults, so I did it. Why not, right?

Besides, I've got a large stash of variegated yarns I've been wanting to use up, and this was it. I did a row of every color, doubling only a couple of them. Kind of gives it a mosiac look, ya think? LOL But, I've still got way to many skeins of variegated left, and I want to make another one of these, maybe keeping the next of shorter. Lining it will be even better! And they work up so fast.

I love it. I think it'll make a perfect robe! I've considered linging it with some cool fabric too....maybe.....one day :)

Winter Combo Hat

Here is a new hat I made for winter with riding in mind. We ride Rokons, 4 wheelers and snowmobiles all winter here, and it's COLD! This is my first try at a hat that is also a scarf around the neck, visor over the eyes, and pulls up over the nose/mouth all in one. I wanted it to be for a 4 year old, that is why it looks kinda short around the neck here....the 4 year old didn't want to model it, so the 13 year old was bribed :) (notice she had to wear her Adler's Appetite shirt!) It actually fits me great too :) I want to make a couple changes next try on a second one, and may put the pattern up on my etsy shop.

Doggie Sweater!

I made this from the new issue of Crochet Today. I used colors for Syracuse being I'm in New York, and the sweater is going to a doggie who is owned by a Syracuse lover :) It came out great. Just need to get some pics of that little French Bulldog wearing it, same as the doggie on the cover below. I liked this pattern so much I'm half done making another with the colors reversed.

The BIG Tah-Da!!!!

I don't know why it's SO big! I did use a hook size smaller than suggested, and I did add a little in length, but gosh, it's so BIG! Wishing I had blocked it, at least the bottom squares. I managed to get the 13 year old to model it, lol. She wasn't happy. She is about 5' 6" or 7" tho, and probably the same size as the model in the pictures I made this by, so WHY is it so BIG?!

Don't you just love it when you are working on a new project, something you have never done before, made alot of mistakes, the kind no one else will see, and wish you had done alot of stitches different as you went along, but there was too much time spent on getting that far to start ripping, and all the 'parts' just happen to line up correctly, and all the stitches go together perfectly as you are sewing them together? Phew! I got lucky on this jacket! Going by the pictures only, I found some major screw ups, but it all kinda worked out anyway, just a little different than the pictures.

I can't wait for the Crochet Today issue to arrive in my mailbox :) so I can SEE the real pattern :):)

This one is about done. I just have to finish the border stitch around it, and chop and sew any ends that are left. So, by tomorrow hopefully, I'll have pics up :) Hmmm, I wonder who I can bribe to model it for me :)

Julia Jacket from Crochet Today (update)

It's getting there! All I have is those 2 pictures I printed out to make it from. It's going to be in the next issue of Crochet Today . Before I saw this link, I had no idea what size it would be, and I am using an "I" hook. Their instructions say to use a "J" hook. I can always add on if it's not long enough.

There is a row I could not figure out, the next row above the solid red/pink. I tried and tried and could not get it to match. I don't know what stitch is used, so I just made do and continued on!

I still need more around those 8 squares, then I'll join the top back to the bottom back part, then the arm sleeves and all the border. This sure is taking alot of white yarn! BTW, I am using Soft White, Light and Dark Aqua, and Raspberry Pink. I love those colors together!

It will in a few more days! LOL I saw this picture below my squares of the sweater, and just love it! It's plain, simple and looks nice! It's going to be in the next issue (Sept. 27th) of Crochet Today with the pattern, but I can't wait that long! :) I printed the picture, grabbed my yarn and threw it all in a bag and went outside to get started on it :) That picture is all I have to go by, so we'll see how it looks when done. I'm not sure if the picture has light and dark blues or aquas, but I am using aquas and white, and substituting the red for raspberry pink. I have 12 squares of the bottom part done so far. More pics in a few days :)

Stash Bag + Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene is barreling through NJ and Philly area now, even though the eye is still near Virginia I think...and I just read that Virginia has received more than 15 inches of rain and there is plenty more to come. Also, more than a million people in the North Carolina and Virginia areas have no power. My family is near Philly, and it's been raining for awhile now there and getting quite windy. Power is flickering now, and will probably be off very soon. I am in central New York, and will be hit by Irene's rain and winds tomorrow all day, so at least we will have daylight to see what's going on. And will be crocheting while stuck inside! I just might start working on Christmas stuff, maybe cause I dug out all my Christmas colored yarns today :):):):):)

Here is the stash bag I made last week out of cotton yarn. I think I like working with cotton better than acrylic now! I saw it on Crochetbug's site, and here is the link to the pattern she posted. Very cute little bag. You can adjust the size too by using a different hook size, or double up the yarn!

I wanted to use up the pound of cotton, so after the stash bag I had enough left to make this doily. done in single crochets, I forgot to measure it, but it's probably about 15 inches across. It's a combo of green, blue, purple and white.

It's a join as you go, and the colors are from Red Heart in Paddy Green, Spring Green, Lavender and Blue. It's all 2 row grannies with my "I" hook. It should look awesome one day when I'm done....no hurry :)

I started this afghan maybe around a year or more ago, and got tired of it so put it away for awhile. Worked on other things, and then back on. Been working on it for the past 2 weeks and now I'm ready to put it away again. Not sure what else I want to work on yet tho. Need something smaller to work on in the house for tomorrow since Irene will come blasting through.

I love these colors, but I think they are a bit lighter in the pic than they really are.

It doesn't seem to stop raining long enough to do much in New York these days. I like to take my pictures of crochet items outside, but everything is always wet, so I finally just laid them on the tote lid!

Cotton sunflowers could be hotpads, pot holders, doilies, coasters, etc. They sure are pretty, aren't they? :)

Flower shawl/Wrap

This is finally done! I started it earlier this year, ran out of the yellow in it, didn't get more till 3 months later! Man is that yarn expensive! In NY it's $9. a skein! But it is SOOO soft! The white skein though, was nothing but knots inside! It was a pain to use because of being so fuzzy soft it was not really knotted, but just weaved itself into another strand enough to be knotted all throughout the whole skein. This is bright cottony white, lemon yellow and lime green. I used Sensation yarn. The pics don't look as bright as it really is. It is for sale in Ebay.

Some New Things, and Ebay

If anyone is selling items on Ebay, and you want to put the listing on your blog, just like your Etsy shop is if you have one, then keep reading. I spent 2 days searching how to do this and found nothing that made any sense until this morning. I found a youtube video that walks you through it very simply! At the same time, have your blog window open and ready, and another site. This whole process will take just a few minutes. Ready? First, open your blog where you want the feed to go. Then, go to feed2js and open this site in another window. Then, you need to open in another window this video on youtube. Follow the video instructions and you'll be up and running in no time!!!

I've been working on some new items, and trying to reduce my cotton yarn stash some. I had the perfect colors for a watermelon set, seedless of course :)

New Join Method + Pillow Covers

Lots of new pillow covers for 14", 16" and 18" pillows. I used a new join method I created you might have seen in my other blanket post below. There is no sewing the front and back pieces together, no single crocheting or whip stitching them together. Around the edge it gives a really neat braided look to the finished item, and is very simple to do.

I love these colors :)

Macrame Plant Hangers

Before I started crocheting about 10 years ago, I made many things with macrame cord. I sold alot of plant hangers, mostly to garden shops, and an AOL online blog I had a shop in.I also made a large toy/stuffed animal holder thingy with 3 big round 12-20 inch shelves in it for my daughter when she was little. I wish I could find those pictures. But....here are my new designs I've been working on. I have white ones, brown, maroon, white/maroon combo, white with tan accents, tan, and I have many more colors yet to make including Christmas colors, and Halloween.

It suddenly was super windy when I was taking these pictures, so if they look a little crooked or funny looking, that is why! LOL

Yes, I LOVE Hobby Lobby yarn, but not the price. I used it for this afghan, and I love these colors! This is a new joining method I created, there is no sewing the squares together, no single crocheting them together, no whip stitching....just a very simple method! I hope to have the pattern with pictures done up and in my Etsy shop in the near future for it.

Between the squares it looks a bit lacey, although black was not the best color choice to show this. Around the edge, or border is done the same way as joining and the edge looks like it was braided. I couldn't get a good picture of it because of the black color.

Here you can see through the squares with the sun shining on it :)

Just popping in here for a minute, it's been so long since my last post! I'm working hard on some new things, including getting back into macrame, which I did before my obsession with crochet started :) Next week I will have lots of new things up on here, new stuff in my Etsy shop, both crochet and macrame, as well as some patterns. I see Blogger has made some new changes since I last posted, just when I thought I had it all figured out! LOL

Here is what I've been working on lately. I saw this pattern over here and gave it a try. I have a bunch made up and decided I might do black border around them all like this one. We'll see how it goes :)I forget where I found this pattern, but it looks so neat done up! It starts as a circle, and is the same size as the above pattern, so I thought about using both circle patterns together in an afghan, but then changed my mind. I may do this one with soft white border around.

I will get more pics up as it progresses :)

These are my mini Japanese flowers I created. The 7 together are about the size of a hotpad.

I've had many requests for my Japanese Flower pattern, so I will write it out for everyone. I don't have any books, and couldn't find a pattern online anywhere, so I just looked good at other flowers I'd found, and made my own pattern, as well as my Mini one. I will post it soon as it's ready :):)
This was another experiment :)

Here is what I've been working on lately. Giant sized version of these popular Japanese flowers that I whipped up. Then found I had a big hole between the flowers, so I created the yellow one to fill it in. I'd like to make it big enough for a throw.
I'm nuts over these 4 colors lately! 2 row grannies, J hook, join as you go. I'm aiming for 30x30 square count :) The way I am joining them gives a layered affect that is really neat, but it don't seem to show much in the pic.

I've been working on this for quite a while now, not even half way yet, but hey...there's no hurry. I love having a good long project to work on when I need to. :)

Biggest yarn ball & B & W

Well, ok it's not THAT big yet, but that is alot of yarn there! :) All the scraps I've saved that were too small to do much with, or just didn't match color wise, or whatever, I knotted it all together and made this big ball. It will get much bigger before one day becoming a scrapghan afghan!
Lately I've been into B & W things. I used Sarah London's wooleater pattern here. Not sure what it will become, but I've run out of my dark gray and need to get more to keep going on it.

It's all fixed and done! And thank you all so much for the comments and suggestions on how to fix it!

Of the 3 panels, I had 25 full shells on one, 26 on the 2nd, and 27 on the 3rd! So first thing I tried was adding on the missing shells. I figured if that didn't work, I'd scrap it till another day (or year). But that worked out great! Very hard to tell where I added on, and a non crocheter would probably not be able to tell.

Worst part was all the added ends I had just for adding that little bit on 2 panels!

So....here it is!!!!!!
I did a zigzag to connect the panels because it just looked really neat :)
The pattern is not mine, it is from Red Heart "Choice Afhgans" Art J17 Book 0701. It is very small and only has 4 afghan patterns in it. I picked it up maybe 7 years ago in a variety store. I've made that pattern 3 times now, once in purples and black, you can find it here , just scroll down a bit, and the other I made is in 3 shades of sage greens and tan. I did get it put together finally but never finished it....lol but you can see that one here , last one on the page.

The pattern works up pretty fast. This last one I did I made bigger panels. I've been wanting to do a blue one.....and maybe a rainbow one.....someday :):):)

Ugh. A crocheters nightmare. I made this shells afghan, 3 large panels. I was very careful about counting stitches (ch 265 in beg) and double checked...... and when I started putting the 3 panels together, they just didn't match. Never had this happen before.......

3-D Flowers

One more 'doily' type thing I did of the Japanese Flower.Then I added to my pattern a little and made 3 layers of flower petals. Looks good in solid color, or 3 shades of the same color. The flower is about 7 1/2 inches across, so it's pretty big. But I don't know what to do with them yet. They are fun and addictive to make!

I saw these flowers on numerous blogs lately and was able to kinda figure out a pattern for them by looking at others. So I did a multi colored shawl first, and it worked up so quick! These flowers are big and easy to make quick.

Then I tried some doily type flowers, like for a tabletop or end table. They do look awfully nice! :)

I've been in a flower mood lately. Maybe because I can't wait till spring now so all this ice cold white stuff is gone outside! My first pansies were made from this book.They look ok, but somethings just not right about them....
So I tried them from this book....
Now these look much better. Bad pic tho. I just don't know what to do with them. :)

I still can't find them all. But here are the ones I have on my desk. Pammy Sue posted yesterday about collecting yarn scraps in a jar. I have saved them for many years in mason jars just because they are so colorful. The first one is just Christmas colored scraps.And buttons go in jars too:)
This one I'm still working on.
If you stuff them until a big blob of scraps pops out when you open the lid and not one more could possible fit, then it looks really neat! The yarn gets all smooshed against the glass. :)

You can also tell what scraps go with projects you did. The one below on the right was scraps from my babette, and the big afghan I did that went to Colorado.

A White Christmas Tree

I made this tree from my pattern I scribbled down last year if you remember the green one I did then, here this one is 2 strands, one of aran and one of aran with gold mixed in.
Jayson has already claimed the tree as his to decorate! Dino's galore!
He does love to decorate things. Here is his Easter Tree, small xmas tree and the white tree he is working on decorating :)
I might have to make myself another one......:)

A Scarf Hat for my little guy

I found this pattern in the Dec. 2009 Crochet world magazine. This is my 3 year old Jayson and the colors he picked for his new hat scarf!
I made a little extension on the back of the hat to keep his neck warm.

Craft Bazaar Find & White Circles

I found this knitted cowl (is it?) with a twist at a local holiday craft bazaar. It stood out to me because of the nice green shades with the brown. I also love the knitted pattern on it even tho I hate to knit :)White circles. I had made a bunch of various sized white circles to make snowmen, and when I started putting them together I didn't like the way they looked. I actually made some of these last xmas, and got mad at how they looked so I packed it up and put it all away until the following year, which is now. So I tried again and still didn't like them. there had to be something else I could do with them.......
So I weaved a strand of scrap yarn through each round twice, over and under each dc, and did a border around with a hanging loop and ended up with some nice tree ornaments!

These are my little bells, measuring about 2 1/2 inches. Why is it that on Blogger the pics you want to come up first always come up last? And why is it I can never remember which order to load them??? Oh well, at least my camera behaved this time and the colors came out good! :)I have bells in my Etsy shop now! :)

Granny Square Christmas Picture

I've been wanting to make a crochet picture with a 'frame' also crocheted. So I did. I wanted it to look like snowflakes falling, and a snow covered Christmas tree. Plain and simple. I should have used something in the frame, like thin wood dowels, but I thought it would make a nice pillow too, which means doing the backside. Hmmmm, now I don't know what to do with it!

I finally tried this pattern a few days ago. I don't think the variegated colors look as good as solid colors. It's hard to really see the details and pattern with multi color yarn. I just might have to try a solid color one next!

This WAS going to be a gift for someone, but I was told they didn't like scarves! It may just end up in my Etsy shop.

Here is my star pattern, I'm just writing it from memory quick, so if you have any problems let me know!

I usually use a "I" hook, but you can use any size. For double strand stars I use "k" or even "L" or "M" hooks.

This pattern is in American crochet terminology. Here is a good site for the differences between British and American if anyone needs it.

Stars

ch5, sl st to form a ring, or use the magic circle.

1. ch3, 2 dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1, repeat 3 times more. (5 groups 3dc, 5 ch1) sl st into top of beg ch3

sl st over to first ch1 sp.

2. ch3, 2 dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1 in same sp, in next ch1 sp, 3dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1, repeat in each ch1 sp. (5 groups of 3dc, ch1, 3dc, ch1) sl st into top of beg ch3

sl st over to next ch1 sp

3. ch3, 2 dc, ch3, 3dc, sc in next ch1 sp, in next ch1 sp 3 dc, ch3, 3dc, sc in next ch1 sp, continue around. If the 3rd row feels tight, you can add a ch1 before or after the 3dc, ch3, 3dc groups. It depends what yarn you use and how tight you crochet. This pattern is easily adjustable.
