I've been working on doilies lately. This blue one is about 2 foot across, and I used size 5 thread, 2.75mm hook. It's hard getting used to the small thread and smaller hooks coming from 12 years of yarn, lol. But this came out very nice!
Then I tried another pattern, used three colors, same thread and hook size. That pattern was ok, but the last 4 rows, which I didn't do were a pain in the butt! So it ended with the red you see below. That doily is about a foot around.
This last one is my own creation. Daring huh? LOL I used my own Japanese Flower Pattern, which is down the right side here on my blog if you'd like it. I also used size 10 thread for this doily, and a smaller hook, 1.65mm. Gosh was that frustrating! Too small, and it leaves the stitches too big because I'm not used to it. But this did come out ok. It's about 10 inches. I've started a few other doilies using the smaller hooks but it's just not working out well. I'm doing a turquoise one of the first blue one above now, using size 10 thread, and a 2.75mm hook. That is working out good for me, just leaves bigger spaces between stitches I guess. It's looking good thought! I will put more photos up once it's done. I'll also try to find where I got the pattern for it.

Your doilies are looking great! Keep up the good work! :) I think you asked me where I get my different colors of threads...and I forgot to answer. A lot of it I have bought online, and when I'm on vacation every once in a while I'll stop at a Hobby Lobby, or AC Moore, and sometimes pick up a few balls there. I also get some at Walmart and Michaels.
So beautiful and delicate xx
Wonderful!

Your doilies look fine. Thread is a little different to work with..it takes time to get used to it. I enjoy working with thread and only use size 10 or 20. Stick with it..blessings
Your doilies are fab!! Love that last one with the different colored flowers. You will get used to the smaller thread, and they always look tons better after you block them. Sometimes I think they are a mess when I make them too, but after blocking, they look so much better. Looks like you did a great job with both sizes of thread.
Spread them out and pin them to shape, then spray them with Fabreeze or just plain water really good then let them dry under a fan. You'll see! That's how I usually block mine.
Don't give up! I used to only work with yarn also, but have grown to love size 10 thread and 1.65 mm hook. Doilies look good.
